Our Ethics:
At Urban Fresh Fruit the main driving force behind the fruit snacks we send out to you is care. From the places that we get the fruit, the way it's transported to us, how it is packaged and finally to the effect it has on you, the fruit eater. We want to make sure our product is the best it possibly can be.
We are a young business and aren't experts on everything. We know how to make great tasting snacks, everything else we've had to pick up as we go along!
This is why we are continuously meeting with people to find out more about all the issues that concern us. We want to know every aspect of the effect our business has on the environment and the consumer.
Health and Making it Easy to Eat Healthy:
Eating is great. And doing that and still being healthy are concerns that started Urban Fresh Fruit and it is one of our primary drives. There's absolutely no compromise at any stage of what we do. It's like a personal thing. We love fruit so we like to be proud of every bag we make. It makes us majorly grumpy if we see people adding sugar and preservatives when we know there's just no need.
It's a thing some producers do to make their lives easy and their pockets fatter but that's not our way of looking at either life or business. Our idea is to make it easier to eat great tasting, healthy snacks that have no unnecessary additives of any kind in them.
A lot of people say to us how do you do that without added stuff? It's not rocket science but like most things it's harder work and something you need to care about a lot but the end, dried fruit product is of a substantially higher quality.
So Urban Fresh Fruit is always, always pure and tasty and made from the best fresh fruit. No compromise ever.
So yeah, no added sugars or preservatives. At all.
Fruit Transportation:
We ship out fruit, rather then fly it, to cut down our company emissions and subsequent carbon footprint. As much as we'd love to source our pineapples and mangoes from the UK unfortunately the weather won't allow us. If there were a place here where we could grow them its fairly likely that we would be living there too! Our fruit is dried before shipping so it's a more space efficient way of getting loads of fruit goodness for the minimal amount of room. The mango fresh to dry ratio is 20:1. So you get 20 times more mango in the same container space and 15 times more pineapples than you would shipping fresh fruit around the globe and none of the waste of space that peel, cores, pips etc take up.
Fruits that we can pick up in Europe we do, like berries and cherries, and we're always looking to get as many of our fruits as we can from as close as possible. Climate allowing....
People:
We care about how our fruits are grown. We know and work closely with all the good people who run the farms and gardens that supply to us. All respect human and environmental concerns and there are some great projects going on, like the Ecuador Project that you can read further details about here.
We work fairly with our farmers and pay very fair prices for good superior fruit. We know the quality we get is better that way too.
So being fairer to our farmers and suppliers makes for better tasting fruit.
Simple.
Fun and friends:
We believe living and eating healthy shouldn't be a penance and that life needs a bit more edge. So as we grow we're planning on having lots of fun days out where people who share our values can come and join us. More details on that as we go....
